THE ART OF GIVING BACK
MULTIPLE ORGANIZATIONS TO BENEFIT FROM RAP KREYOL: UNITY IS POWER BENEFIT CONCERT
MIAMI, FL.-OCTOBER 26, 2008. Walking through the streets of Haiti, the poverty is evident but now so is the destruction and devastation that four back-to-back storms have left the already impoverished nation. Currently, the average life expectancy in Haiti is 51 years of age and 80 percent of Haitian citizens are living in poverty. One company is doing all they can to give back to this community and that company is Shakaitutu, LLC.
On December 20, 2008 in Port Au Prince, Haiti, history will be made. Shakaitutu, LLC will be collaborating with artists from all around the world in order to put together the inaugural Rap Kreyol: Unity is Power benefit concert. The vision of creating such a unique concert is to give back to the public by combining the art of music with the art of giving back. The "heavy hitters" (the best groups in Haiti) that will be featured in this concert are Rockfam, Mystic 703, C-Projects, Brimad, Boule Mic, Lord Duice, Black Fanfan and it will be hosted by Zoe Nas. Joining these artists will also be artists from the U.S., Canada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Martin and France. These artists include Sesa Konsa, Bennchoumy, Misie GG aka Fuckly, Tiwony, I&I and Benny Blacko.
Some very important organizations will be the beneficiaries of the first annual Rap Kreyol: Unity is Power concert; they are Theo's Work, Ecole St. Vincent (School of St. Vincent), and Oasis for Children. All three of these organizations have a very important mission for the Haitian community and now with the help of Shakaitutu, they will get the financial help they need. Ecole St. Vincent is both a school and a clinic for children with visual, mental, and orthopedic problems, Theo's Work Inc. is a non-profit organization founded to support humanitarian efforts in the South of Haiti and The Oasis for Children is an organization that is dedicated to providing help for the impoverished children of Haiti.
Not only did tragedy strike the entire nation of Haiti this year but also some of those involved in the Haitian Rap Kreyol movement. This year, the movement lost 3 members of Barikad Crew, the most popular group in Rap Kreyol, and also the talented dancer that is Ywana Paul. The Barikad Crew members were killed in an unfortunate accident when their car hit an electric wire. Ywana Paul was the dancer for RockFam and was hit by a bus that had lost control of the vehicle while she was out for a job. Those very talented young emcees and Ywana Paul had their life taken away from them entirely too early and they will be missed but never forgotten as their lives will continue to live on in the Haitian Rap Kreyol movement.
The event will take place on December 20, 2008 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and is expected to have more than 5,000 people in attendance. In addition, the event will be will be broadcasted live on HaitiStream.com and also rebroadcasted on local network television, both in the Caribbean and in the USA.
With everything going on, it is time to come together and give back to those less fortunate than ourselves. It is time to do better for the world we live in-not only for us but for our children and our children's children. It is time to indulge the world with music that is often underestimated. It is time to do something. It is time to act.
