SAD NEWS FOR THE RAP KREYOL FAMILY. HEARTS AND PRAYERS GO TO BARIKAD CREW
From Shakaitutu desk...It is with a lot of sadness that we are relaying this information to you this morning As Haiti and the whole Rap Kreyol Family woke up in mourning this sunday June 15, 2008. Barikad Crew (BC), a very popular group in Haiti, has lost 3 of its members a long with 2 other friends, as a result of a tragic car accident. The 3 members are Papa Katafal (The leader of the group), Dade, and Deja Vu.
Shakaitutu learned from very close sources that the Crew was coming from a performance in "La Plaine" and they were on their way to closing the anniversary party for Radio Caraibesfm. The members were in separate cars. As a result of the accident, the car in which those 3 members and the 2 friends were, caught fire. It is very hard to talk about what happened as it is described as something that you never want to see with your own eyes.
Shakaitutu spoke to Dug G, from BC's rival group Rockfam, this morning around 4:00 Am. He was in tears. He stated the following: "it is a very sad moment for Rap Kreyol. What happened to BC could have easily happened to Rockfam. Our Heart and prayers go to the BC family and the whole Rap Kreyol movement. This is not a moment for "beef", It is a moment of sadness. We both go through the same hassles, where you finish performing at one place and you have to rush to another place to perform again. That's the life of a Rap Kreyol MC. Words cannot describe how I feel right now. I have been up since 2:00 AM and cannot fall asleep. The movement will never be the same as BC will never be the same. Rockfam is planning something special in memory of those members from BC."
Shakaitutu is very touched by this sad news as the Rap Kreyol movement is our extended family. We are very close with Rockfam and Barikad Crew. The saddest part is that not too long ago we were hanging out with Dade, and Deja Vu in Haiti and on June 1, 2008 Papa Katafal celebrated his birthday at the Hommage to Master Dji party. How do you say Good bye? We cannot say good bye. Shakaitutu will dedicate the rest of the year in the memory of those who lost their lives. As the saying goes: " The good dies young." Man, they were great and young.
VOILA, the company who sponsors Barikad Crew, is very touched by the news. Their hearts and prayers go to the Barikad Crew family.
Send your comments to Barikad Crew at www.myspace.com/Barikadcrew509 they will really appreciate it.
